The American College of Physicians ( ACP ) is a national organization of internal medicine physicians - specialists who apply scientific knowledge and clinical expertise to the loving diagnosis, treatment and care of people adults across the entire spectrum from health to complex diseases. With 148,000 members, the ACP is the largest medical-specialized organization and the second largest physician group in the United States.

Mission and history
ACP's mission is to improve the quality and effectiveness of health care by developing excellence and professionalism in medical practice. Founded in 1915 to promote the science and practice of medicine. In 1998, ACP joined the American Society of Internal Medicine (ASIM), founded in 1956 to study the medical aspects of medicine. Known as ACP-ASIM from 1998 to 2003, the organization subsequently adopted the "American College of Physicians" as its company name.

Structure
The ACP is governed by the Bupati Council, the main policy body that oversees the business and its affairs. The Bupati Council consists of elected officials. The Board of Governors serves as an advisory council for the Bupati Council, along with various councils and committees. The Board of Governors consists of elected governors who undertake projects and initiatives at the chapter level and represents member issues at the national level. The Board of Governors consists of elected governors in chapters and territories of the United States, Canada, Central and South America, Japan, and Saudi Arabia. ACP sponsors the Community Subspecialty Council, which consists of representatives of the subspecialty community of internal medicine and related organizations.
ACP is represented in the American Medical Association, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and other organizations.
Membership
ACP membership levels are Medical Students, Associates, Members, Fellows (FACP), and Masters (MACP). Fellowship and Mastership at ACP is an organizational way to record remarkable achievements in internal medicine. Fellows are recommended by their peers, supported by their local chapter leaders, and reviewed by a subcommittee on national credentials. Masters are nominated from the Fellows of ACP for the annual election for this group. Board certification in internal medicine is not required. However, prospective members must be "eligible councils."
Non-Physician Affiliate Memberships are available for licensed non-medical health care professionals, or doctors who hold an equivalent international degree and who keep their professional credentials to practice.
Publications and products
The American College of Physicians distributes many publications and products to members. They include: Annals of Internal Medicine, a weekly peer-reviewed medical journal, is printed twice per month and alternately online
Activity
ACP's Washington, D.C., monitors offices and responds to public policy issues affecting public health and medical practice. Activities include the development of policy and communication statements with the legislative and administrative sectors of government.
ACP & amp; Ethics Center Professionalism seeks to advance physicians and public understanding of ethical and professional issues in medical practice to improve patient care by promoting the highest ethical standards. The sixth edition of the ACP Ethics Manual was published in 2012.
The ACP High-Vision Program aims to help patients receive the best care from doctors while reducing unnecessary costs for health care systems. These initiatives include clinical and public policy recommendations, curricula, and resources for physicians. For patients, ACP offers resources about benefits, dangers, costs and treatment options for common clinical problems.
Education and information resources
ACP supports optimal medical practice by providing opportunities for continuing medical education. The ACP medical education program includes its annual scientific meeting.
ACP developed several types of clinical recommendations, including the Clinical Practice Guidelines, Guide Statements, and Best Practice Advice Papers. The purpose of the ACP is to provide physician recommendations based on the best available evidence; to inform the doctor when there is no evidence; and to help doctors provide the best health care.
In October 2017 ACP advocated seizure of all semi-automatic weapons from US citizens.
