Nazareth is a town in Thoothukudi district in India's Tamil Nadu state.

Geography
Nazareth is located near the southern tip of the country. Named by early Christian missionaries. There is a 100 year old church (St. John's Cathedral) in the city center. It has a tall tower with a flat top. This part of Southern Tamil Nadu has many Gothic-style churches.
Nazareth is in Thoothukudi district. It is about 50 km from Thoothukudi; and about 36 km from Tirunelveli. It has a train station and a bus stand. Some villages around Nazareth are considered part of Nazareth.
Some daily trains to Chennai pass Tirunelveli. The Chendur Express train (16106/16105) runs through Nazareth daily. Tiruchendur-Palakkad passenger train (56770/56769) is a long passenger train that is separated from other passenger trains run through Nazareth.
Nazareth is connected to the major cities of Tamil Nadu and also to all the villages around the area. The bus services include nightly direct services to Chennai, Coimbatore, Bangalore and other places. It has been named after the Christian gospel that came to Tamil Nadu to commemorate the place of Nazareth-a city in Israel today where Jesus Christ spent his early days and was called the 'Son of Nazareth'.

Climate
The climate of the city of Nazareth is usually dry. The short rainy season is there but the weather for the most part is hot and humid. Paddy rice is mainly cultivated in and around the sites of Nazareth on a large scale, followed by green and black grains. Bananas are also cultivated here on a large scale.
History
Nazareth is a Christian city, made by missionaries from England - London, mainly through the work of Canon Arthur Margoschis. 90% of the population is Christian. The city is surrounded by a Hindu community. The main Hindu temple was built in the late 1960s. The city was formerly known as 'Saann Pathu' and also as 'Therku Mudalur' and was named by the inhabitants. It is an educational center with schools such as Margoschis High School for Boys and High School Teens. Canon Margoschis's contribution to Nazareth
Many prominent missionaries provide significant services not only for the growth of Christianity but also for the development of Nazareth in various dimensions. Among other things, the contribution of Canon A. Margoschis to the growth of the village side is very important. The development of Nazareth with educational institutions, orphanages and Art Industry Schools, hospitals and churches is basically due to the results of the great missionary efforts of Canon A. Margoschis. For decades of the nineteenth century, Nazareth was identified as a small hamlet located near Valaiyadi or Vahuthankuppam and the people of Nazareth had to acquire goods from neighboring shops or villages crossing sandy lands filled with shrubs and trees. This unrecognized hamlet has become a recognized and developed place with all the facilities because of the work done by canon Margoschis.
St. Hospital Luke, Nazareth:
Although founded in 1870 by Dr. J.M. Strachan, monumental growth is under the control of Canon A. Margoschis. Because he has knowledge of drugs, he can perform exceptional medical services, helping thousands of sick people even from 20 to 30 miles away. This service is freely given to all regardless of caste and conviction. There is a very heavy need to provide more facilities to swell the number of sick people in hospitals with wards, compound spaces, etc., To meet the requirements, the main building of the hospital was built by him in 1892 and the hospital was named "St. Luke Hospital "by him on St. Luke's (18 October) in 1892.
Orphanage and Art Industry School:
Canon Margoschis, built a small hut a hundred yards from the bungalow for orphaned children in 1877. As the number of orphans grew, he sought to build a building for them and the same building was built in 1878 at the place where the Arts Industry School is now. He was awakened to his responsibilities and obligations to the less fortunate and eager to introduce teaching to them in the industry course. Therefore he founded the Art Industry School at the orphanage itself on 14-11-1878. Carpentry, smithy and sewing courses begin and then the weaving section is introduced. In 1884, the first sewing machine was purchased and sewing art was introduced. Lower secondary training was provided and in 1900, Upper Secondary Training was transferred from Tuticorin to Nazareth. He was the school manager until his death. At that time the School of Industrial Art, the brain-child of Canon Margoschis, was hailed as the only one of its kind in the district and the oldest in the Madras Presidency.
High School Girl
Canon Margoschis was appointed headmaster in 1876 itself. He founded the Teacher Training School in 1877. He also stressed the need for good education for women and started a kindergarten school. In 1886, he made a historic achievement to improve Normal to High School schools. The school became a full high school in 1888 and the first group of women in the Madras Presidency to pass the Matriculation Exam came from this school. The school standard was greatly appreciated by the Director of Public Instruction in 1890. This school is a junior high school for women in southern India.
Boy's High School: Canon Margoschis founded a high school for boys in 1882 under the name "Anglo-Vernacular School". In 1885; this school was awarded the title of "Best School" in the Madras Presidency, He made a successful effort to upgrade it to "Secondary School" in 1889 despite strong opposition from then Bishop Rt. Pdt. Caldwell. This angered the Bishop who closed the High School section in 1892.
Seminars Theologians:
Another brain - the son of Canon Margoschis is Theological Seminary. Founded in 1890 with eight students. It has grown from strength to strength in subsequent years.

Canon Margoschis adopted Nazareth as his "Son", and with the help of the orphan and hired laborers, he placed the metal road from Nazareth to Valaiyadi and planted trees on both sides. Margonschis Higher Secondary School
The first evangelist, Aerion, started elementary school in 1839 with the aim of providing education to local children. Soon another school begins for girls. In 1880, Men's Elementary School became High School High School. When Canon Arthur Margoschis was a Missionary in Nazareth, High School High School became the "Anglo-vernacular School".
