The Australian Maritime College (AMC) is a higher education institution based in Launceston, Tasmania, founded by the Maritime College Act 1978 (Cth). Tertiary education is provided and organized by the University of Tasmania (UTAS) as the Australian Maritime College (AMC) at the University of Tasmania (AMC @ UTAS). However the college education curriculum is governed by an independent AMC Board. The AMC is Australia's national center for maritime education, training, and research. It has two campuses located within 50 kilometers (31 miles) of each other in North Tasmania, each with different facilities and residences.
AMC consists of two national centers offering courses in maritime engineering, marine environments, maritime logistics and shipping. The national centers are:
- National Center for Marine Engineering and Hydrodynamics
- National Center for Ports and Delivery
AMC also has a commercial arm, AMC Search Ltd, which provides maritime-related training and consultancy to various international and Australian organizations and individuals including the Federal Government Federal Government Boat Patrol Program.

Kampus Newnham
The main AMC campus is located in Newnham, 6 kilometers from Tasmania's second largest city center, Launceston. Facilities located on the Newnham campus include:
- Maritime Simulation Center
The recently refurbished facility has a full mission bridge, tug bridge and six smaller, fully integrated simulators capable of reproducing busy ports under various conditions.
- Towing Tank
The only commercially operated facility in Australia, this 100-meter tank (330 ft) is used to measure the hull's resistance to provide a power forecast.
- Model Test Basin
This 35-by-12-meter (115Ã, ftÃÆ'ÃÆ'Ã, 39Ã, ft) facility is ideally suited for conducting hydrodynamic experiments with emphasis on maritime operations in shallow water environments.
- Aquaculture Center
One of the special facilities to study fish and shellfish farming in Australia and thus has extensive aquarium facilities that are used for research and teaching.
- Cavity Research Laboratory
This facility is dedicated to studying vapor - steam cavities formed by low pressure - on foils, vanes and other underwater forms. It also features strict controls of soluble and free bubble gas content.
- Survival Center
The center is used for exercises, to test new life-saving tools and for some research activities. It consists of an indoor heated pool and a mock ship's superstructure, complete with life raft launch facilities.
AMC is unique because it is the only University in the world that has all these facilities in one area.
AMC also has Marine Fire Brigade located in Bell Bay, 48 km north of Launceston, equipped with a variety of marine firefighting equipment and specializes in practical training.

Planning Master
The campus is currently undergoing the Master Planning practice because the University of Tasmania will move to the Inveresk area which is located closer to the CBD in Launceston.

The Beauty Point facility is home to AMC training vessels, including Bluefin.
Sydney Facilities
Located at the National Maritime Museum of Australia, AMC organizes graduate programs at Sydney facilities.
Accommodation
Space Investigator
Investigator Hall is an AMC residence at Newnham Campus and provides accommodations reserved for AMC and University of Tasmania students. The residence is named after HMS Investigator â ⬠<â ⬠, a vessel used by Matthew Flinders to circumnavigate Australia.
Program
AMC offers undergraduate and graduate programs in areas such as Maritime & amp; Hydrodynamics, Maritime Business & amp; International Logistics and Ocean Shipping. In addition, AMC also offers the Seafaring Beach VET course. AMC also manages and teaches major maritime and logistics management courses within the Bachelor of Business and Master of Business Administration programs along with the Tasmania Business and Economics School, UTAS.
