History
Chaffey College of Agriculture, founded by the founders of Ontario, George and William Chaffey, opened on October 15, 1885. The institute, which also has a secondary school, was operated by the University of Southern California until 1901, when under the control of the local community and named Ontario High School. In 1911, registration was opened for students from Upland and the school was named in honor of the Chaffey brothers. Almost all high school students in the western San Bernardino area attended Chaffey, a trend that continued into the 1950s. The school buildings were rebuilt and many were newly built during the government's public works program from New Deal. Chaffey College continued to operate on campus until 1960, when it was transferred to the nearby community of Alta Loma.
