Colorado Mesa University (formerly known as Mesa State College , is a public comprehensive university in Grand Junction, Colorado. The university's main campus is in the center of Junction. The university also has other campuses: Bishop Campus, which houses the Western Colorado Community College in north-west of Grand Junction; and a regional campus in Montrose, Colorado. Colorado Mesa University grants a two-year associate, a four-year bachelor's degree, and a master's degree.

Previously named Mesa State College (MSC), the school obtained university status in August 2011, changing its name to Colorado Mesa University.

The Supervisory Board consists of 13 guardians (11 votes and two non-voting members). The voting member was appointed by the Colorado Governor, confirmed by the Colorado State Senate and serving the term reeled. Colorado Mesa University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and a member of the Northern Central Association. Accreditation by this institution places credits earned at universities equivalent to those obtained at other accredited institutions similar across the United States. In 2010, Forbes magazine was listed at Mesa State College in No. 1. 555 on their "Best Colleges" 610 list. By 2015, US News & amp; World Report enrolled Colorado Mesa University as tied for 6th place with Lewis-Clark State College, Lewiston, ID, for their Top Public Schools - Regional High School (West)

Financial help

During the 2010-2011 academic year, Colorado Mesa University distributes over $ 48 million in financial aid to 75% of the student population through scholarships, grants, loans and student work. In addition to funding from campus, the Mesa State Foundation provides over $ 300,000 private scholarships to more than 300 students.

Life residence

Colorado Mesa University offers students the option to stay on campus. There are currently over 2,000 students living on campus in eleven residential buildings comprising of traditional rooms, suites and pods, and apartments.

The residence and apartment halls are arranged by the Residence Hall Association (RHA). The Residence Hall Council (RHC) is an extension of the RHA and acts as the governing body for each dormitory. Each RHC building consists of an elected executive board and RHA representatives.

Important building

Houston Hall

Houston Hall has a reputation as the first building on campus. Built in 1940, it was named for the university's first president, Dr. Clifford G. Houston. Prior to its construction, the campus occupied the abandoned school building (the old Lowell School) in the city center. During the expansion and renovation of the 2011 project, subtle treatments were taken to seamlessly adapt the new wing ornamental wick facade with the original building.

Lowell Heiny Hall

Originally built in 1967 for a college library house, previously located in Houston Hall, Lowell Heiny Hall is now a faculty office.

University Center

The University Center building is currently built in 2010 to replace the aging W.W. Campbell College Center. The new University Center has the main campus dining facilities including: Dining Hall, Bookcliff Cafe, Starbucks Coffee, and small shop. The center also houses Associated Student Government, The Criterion's campus newspaper, KMSA 91.3FM, Bookstore, Ballroom, student lounge, MAV Card Office, and Student Life office containing several club offices.

The Maverick Center

Formerly known as Saunders Field House, The Maverick Center has all athletic facilities under one roof, except for football and baseball. Facilities include: Brownson Arena, El Pomar Natatorium, Hamilton Recreation Center, Center for Health Sciences, and Monfort Family Family Performance Laboratory. Adjacent to The Maverick Center is Walker Field & amp; Lacrosse Stadium, Elliot Tennis Complex, Bergman Softball Field, and Maverick Pavilion.

Moss Performing Arts Center

The Moss Center for the Performing Arts, named for supporters of the local Mesa University of John and Angie Moss, provides music, dance and theater students with the facilities needed for their creativity to shine. The Center, which recently underwent a $ 5.1 million renovation and expansion, is home to the 600-seat William S. Robinson Theater, a 300-seat concert hall, Walter Walker Acceptance Area, the Mesa Experimental Theater, a design studio , lots of music practice rooms, intelligent tech classrooms, faculty offices and dance studios with panoramic views of the Grand Valley.

Moss is home to the Department of Theater and Music which offers a variety of entertainment for campus and local communities throughout the year.

Tomlinson Library

In 1984 the library collection had beaten the Lowell Heiny Library and its plans were made to build a new home collection. The new library was ordained in 1986. Recognized as an architectural gem in American School and University magazine, the library was named for John U. Tomlinson's college chairman in 1988 to honor his commitment to improving library services on campus. The Tomlinson library now contains over 190,000 volumes, including a large collection of government documents, and world-class geology libraries. It is equipped with state-of-the-art computer technology and is considered one of the best small college libraries in the state.

Athletics

The CMU athletic team is known as the Mavericks, their mascot symbolized by a buffing bull's head with a burning nostril. The official colors are maroon, white, and gold. The student body fan is known as The Herd.

Colorado Mesa Mavericks has 21 university teams competing in the NCAA Division II athletics, as part of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. CMU field teams in men's soccer, men's baseball, men's and women's basketball, women's, men's and women's cross-country volumes, indoor and outdoor men's and women's tracks, men's and women's golf, men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosee, softball women, men and women swimming, men's and women's tennis, and men's wrestling.
