Cresson is a district in Cambria County, Pennsylvania, United States. Cresson is 80 miles (130 km) east of Pittsburgh. Height above 2,000 feet (600 m). Lumber, coal and coke yard are industries that have supported a population of 1,470 in 1910. The area is part of the Johnstown Metropolitan Statistical Area, although state and local sources record it as part of the Altoona region as it is much closer to the city. Cresson's population at the 2010 census was 1,711.
This location was named in 1854 as a memorial to the philanthropist Elliott Cresson. The railroad, beginning with Allegheny Portage Railroad, triggers the growth of the area. Many of the well-known Pittsburgh businesspeople, including Charles M. Schwab, Andrew Carnegie, and Henry Clay Frick, maintain a summer residence in the area.

Geography
Cresson is located east of Cambria County on 40Ã, Â ° 27? 45? N 78Ã, Â ° 35? 11? W , above the Eastern Continental Divide, the height of the land between the Eastern Seaboard in the United States and the Ohio River valley. The Little Conemaugh River rises at Cresson, flowing to the southwest to form the Conemaugh River, which in turn flows into the Kiskiminetas River, then the Allegheny River, the Ohio River, and finally the Mississippi. The north side of Cresson, meanwhile, flows northward to Clearfield Creek, a tributary of the Western Branch of Susquehanna River, leading to the Chesapeake Bay. Two miles (3 km) east of the city is the Blair Gap on the eastern edge of Allegheny Plateau. The distance is the location of the Allegheny Railage Railroad National Historic Site, at the height of the ground where the first rail (portage rail) passes through the Allegheny Mountains.
Cresson passed south and east with Route 22 US, a four-lane expressway, with access from two exits: Pennsylvania Route 53 (Second Street) to the south, and Admiral Peary Highway (formerly 22 US) to the east. Altoona is 15 miles (24 km) northeast through US 22 and Interstate 99, while Ebensburg, Cambria County chairs, 8 miles (13 km) to the west.

History
Mountainhouse Era
One of the first buildings in the area to be the Cresson is the Mountainhouse Hotel. The Queen Anne-style structure was opened by Pennsylvania Railroad in 1881, sold to Cresson Springs Co., and destroyed in 1916. It is expected to draw visitors from Pittsburgh and Johnstown looking for clean air and "therapeutic" springs. Though unsuccessful, it leads to the development of some hotels, companies, and the city itself.
This area is now known as "Mountain Land" for the locals and is in the midst of development. Some of the original huts are still standing (some in exceptional condition), including Andrew Carnegie and Benjamin Jones.
