Jon David Ritchie (born September 4, 1974) is an American sports radio host and former professional football professional at the National Football League. He started for seven seasons in the NFL, playing for Oakland Raiders and the Philadelphia Eagles. Despite only 15 efforts rushing in his career, Ritchie built a reputation with his blue-collar work ethic as one of the best defenders in the NFL. College career
After graduation, Ritchie attended the University of Michigan as a freshman and second year. In Michigan, he plays as a real freshman. During his career in Michigan, he rushed for 120 yards and caught two baits for 13 yards. Then in 1995 he was transferred to Stanford University where he played as a junior and senior. At Stanford, he first started out as an inner linebacker, but switched to fullback. He rushed 17 times for 95 yards and received nine bait for 80 yards and two goals. He is a member of the Delta Tau Delta International Fraternity.
Professional career
Ritchie was designed in the third round (63 overall) of the NFL Draft 1998 by Oakland Raiders. He started for the Raiders for five seasons. Raiders raced back Charlie Garner posted three seasons over 1,700 yards of soccer practice with Ritchie as his team mate after rushing just 381 yards a year before he joined Oakland. The Raiders led the league in total yardage in 2002, en route to the AFC Championships and appearances on Super Bowl XXXVII, where Oakland lost to Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
In 2003, Ritchie signed a two-year contract with the Philadelphia Eagles. He has expressed interest in playing closer to his hometown, which is only 90 miles west of Philadelphia, so his friends and family can watch and attend his games. In 2003, the Eagles ran back tandem Brian Westbrook, Duce Staley, Correll Buckhalter and quarterback Donovan McNabb rushed for 2,015 yards and 23 goals behind Ritchie. Ritchie also came second in the team at a touchdown reception in 2003 (behind Westbrook, and in front of Staley), with the Eagles running back playing a bigger role in a game that passes from a lackluster recipient core.
Four games into the 2004 season, Ritchie suffered a season-ending knee injury. He again signed a contract with the Eagles with a one-year contract for the 2005 season while recovering from his injury. Although Ritchie has taken the first team representative as a full defender during the training camp, he was released by the team during the final cut. He retired from playing before the 2006 season and started his career in sports media.
Career statistics
senatorial election campaign
Ritchie announced in February 2016 that he would run for the State Senate of Pennsylvania to replace Pat Vance in the 31st Senatorial District of Pennsylvania. He praised himself as a candidate who will lower his taxes, will fight for pension reform, and help revitalize Pennsylvania's education system. In a four-way race for Republican nomination, Ritchie came second after Mike Regan. Ritchie actually won the Democratic nomination with a vocal voice despite not campaigning for it, but ultimately decided not to run in elections.
