Royal Military Academy Saint-Jean ( RMCSJ ; French: CollÃÆ'¨ge militaire royal de Saint-Jean ), commonly referred to as RMC Saint-Jean , is a Canadian military college. The city is located on the site of Fort Saint-Jean, originally built in 1666, which is now part of the city of Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, Quebec, 40 km south of Montreal. RMC Saint-Jean is the arm of the Canadian Military College system which mainly ensures the smooth transition of selected cadets from Quebec high school to university education by providing pre-university programs (separate college degrees from Quebec). This program is aligned with them at the Royal Military College of Canada (RMC). The four components of achievement are Academic, Leadership, Athletics, and Bilingualism. RMC Saint-Jean offers a low teacher-student ratio, physical fitness program, teaching, and leadership activities. Colleges have clubs, intramural sports programs and recreational facilities.

Program

In accordance with the first two years of college studies in Quebec, the year of preparation is a pre-university course. Aimed at students who have obtained their secondary school certificate in Quebec or an equivalent elsewhere in Canada, this program prepares students to continue their studies at Royal Military College of Canada in Kingston, Ontario.

Military education for Canadian officers is focused on four unique components for military colleges: military training, physical fitness, bilingualism and academic excellence.

Approximately 200 students per year receive training at RMC Saint-Jean in a two-year program, general military, college diploma:

  • 130-140 cadets in preparation year
  • 60-70 in the second year

RMC Saint-Jean enables Quebec who has completed a year in a particular college to move on to his first year at RMC Saint-Jean. RMC Saint-Jean offers courses in French to French-speaking cadets and in English to English-language cadets.

Although colleges do not offer university-level courses as they did prior to 1995, credits may be applied to programs at RMC or other universities. In order for students to move smoothly from one to another, the academic programs at both institutions are aligned. At the end of the first year or preparation, students who choose the "General" program (science, art, business) stay in CMR for another year. Students who are studying engineering go to Kingston, Ontario to the first year at RMC.

Year of preparation ("preparation of the year") cadets obtain the academic standards required to attend RMC. Although the program is aimed primarily for students from Quebec, the year of preparation is open to students from Canada who need to improve their studies before starting a university program. The CMR's academic function is to educate cadets up to the second year of bachelor's degree. The remaining study must be completed at RMC in Kingston.

Divided into two semesters, the academic year consists of 75 teaching days and a final exam period, followed by additional check periods.

In preparation for continuing university studies at RMC, students choose either a Social Science program (for students pursuing a degree in Art) or a Science program (for students who pursue a degree in Engineering or Science). Each program is offered in two official languages. Both courses share the core courses: four in the literature; three in philosophy; two in Second Language Studies; three in physical education. This core course comes with a special course for each program.

Academics

The students of the year of preparation apply either in the social sciences or science program. The program is offered in two official languages. Social science programs feature courses in sociology, history, political science, mathematics, computer science, chemistry and physics. The science program includes courses in mathematics, physics, chemistry, computer science, and history. The core courses in both courses include: literature, humanities, second languages, and physical education.

The mandate of the year of preparation is to develop good work habits, academic diligence, critical facilities, and team spirit of the students.

Uniform

Cadets wear various uniforms depending on their occasions and environment: ceremonial clothing (semi ceremonial); full dress (official events); outerwear; Air Force service clothing; navy service suit; Navy service clothes without jackets; Air Force clad service without jackets; army of clothes service without a jacket; and war clothes.

In the winter of 2009, Royal Military College officer cadets were dressed in a special Dress of the Day (DOD) uniform consisting of a white shirt, a black sweater/light jacket, and black trousers/skirts with red stripes on the sides. Headdress is a black slice with red piping.

Skills badge

The golden thread that crosses the gun is given as a military badge for marksmanship when the sniper level is reached for the gun; the crown was awarded in May to the highest score in the College. The shotgun's golden thread is given as a military badge for marksmanship when the sniper's level is reached by a rifle; the crown was awarded in May to the highest score in the College. The golden thread of the cross sword in the honors of military awards laourel award is given if the following conditions have been fulfilled by the students: a mark of at least B in military judgment; positive leadership qualities in the summer training report; academic average of at least 70%; sign at least B in physical exercise; a satisfactory mark in the bilingualism profile; The crown is awarded to the upper Cadet after receiving this award, based on the year. All students are given at least a blue star to start in bilingualism. When they reach proficiency, they receive silver or gold stars. The academic disparity badge is given to students with an academic average of at least 80% by the end of the year. The crossing bats are a physical fitness badge awarded after achieving a number of points on a regular physical fitness test.

Because cadets learn and demonstrate leadership skills, they are appointed to different positions. Since all cadets are technically cadets of officers in the Canadian Forces, "Bar" distinguishes the difference in rank and responsibility. The number of stems increased from 0 to 5 when students were promoted. There are five positions without bars and 152 bar positions.

Center

CFMDS

Founded in 1966, the mission of the Canadian Forces Management Development School (CFMDS) is to apply management and leadership training and consultation to the defense team. CFMDS is housed in RMC Saint-Jean.

NCMPDC

The Non-Commission Member Profession Development Center (NCMPDC) was established on April 1, 2003 and is located on the S t Campus -Jean. Courses offered at the center are Intermediate Leadership Qualification (ILQ), Advanced Leadership Qualifications (ALQ) and finally CPO1/CWO Chief Qualification (CQ). All courses include distance learning and housing sections. The distance learning section lasts 9 or 10 weeks depending on the course and allows the candidates to remain with their respective units. These courses also prepare candidates for the housing section lasting three weeks and take place on the RMC Saint-Jean website.

The NCMPDC course was created as a result of NCM Corps 2020, which is a strategic guide for professional development of Non-Commissioner Canadian Forces Members.

More than a thousand Canadian Forces members transit through the NCMPDC each year to refine their knowledge and skills following or prior to their promotion to the warrant officer (petty class 1 officer), main police officer (second class chief) or chief warrant officer first).

The NCMPDC is the establishment of a unique professional education in CF. This is the only CF-school for NCM to be taught by NCM and as of September 2007 instructed by NCM.

Since May 2009, NCMPDC has been under the command of the Canadian Forces College (CFC) in Toronto, which offers a similar professional development curriculum but to officers from the major to the brigadier-generals.

On April 20, 2012, the auditorium at the Member Development Center for Non Member Commissioners (NCMPDC) was named after Chief of Staff Warrant Robert Girouard, MSC who was the first Sergeant Regiment in the 123-year history of the Royal Canadian Regiment to be killed by enemy action; He was previously stationed in Germany, Kosovo, Bosnia and Afghanistan.

Regular Officer Training Plan

In addition to university education, Cadet Officers receive military training, job training and second language training and careers after graduation. Full-time salary includes complete dental care, as well as a full-pay holiday. After successfully completing the Regular Officer Training Plan (ROTP), Cadet Officers are awarded a university degree and awarded commissions as Officers in the Canadian Forces. Typically, graduates serve at least five years with Canadian Forces. The application deadline for ROTP was in January for Basic Officer Training in July and entered in the following September.

Typically, successful applicants enter the Canadian Canadian College (CMC) System as Cadet Officers, where they receive education that balances academics, leadership, bilingualism, and athletics. If there are more qualified candidates than the CMC System can accommodate or no program options are offered, such as Nursing, Physiotherapy and Pharmacy, successful applicants will be eligible to apply to a Canadian university where books, laboratory fees, and student fees are covered, and students receive monthly salary.

Since the application for ROTP is also an application for the Canadian Military College System, all candidates are assessed on the basis of aptitude tests, medical examinations, and interviews. Military Potential is an assessment of Aptitudes, Personality Traits, and employment choices. Academic Achievement is evaluated, with the top six candidates related to the program requirements selected. Cadet Officers are required to maintain satisfactory academic and military performance throughout the program.

Routine

When they arrived at the Cadet Division Division, the cadet-officers had chosen their service. They are immediately separated into three squadrons (Richelieu, Iberville, or Tracy).

The preuniversity program has a variety of modern teaching methods: workshops, introduction of research methods, laboratories, group projects, oral and multimedia presentations. Staff provide academic support in the form of workshops, tutorials, and additional courses.

The cadets resided in the Cartier Building or the Champlain Building and ate at the Dextraze Pavilion (completed in 1993). The cadets can not leave the campus except on weekends, but some weekends are used for military training.

During the week, daily routines consist of checking, running, breakfast, classes, sports, and studies. The officers cadets attend academic classes and undergo military training. Military training in the form of exercise, cartography, compass usage and two major field exercises each year. Cadets can take on the role of cadetron leader, cadet chief vice chairman, cadet leader and sexy commander. Outside the classroom, bilingualism was promoted by the French/English week.

At the weekend, with the exception of military training, the students are mostly free.

History

In the fall of 2007, the federal government reopened military schools in Saint-Jean. Military colleges were scheduled to close in 1995, but on July 9, 1994, the federal and provincial governments agreed to keep it as a non-degree college.

The reopened RMC Saint-Jean is very different from the original campus opened in 1952 and from the Canadian RMC located in Kingston. The new RMC Saint-Jean includes the Canadian School of Management and Development, one of the oldest CF training centers in the country. It is also home to the Non-Commission Member Profession Development Center, which develops senior candidate leaders from the Canadian Forces NCM Corps.

MichaÃÆ'Â «lle Jean, Governor-General of Canada, inaugurated the Royal Military College of Saint-Jean on May 24, 2008, and he handed over a new college mark to Commander Colonel Francois Pion.

Commander of the Royal Military Academy Saint-Jean reported to the Commander, Canadian Defense Academy (CDA). RMC Saint-Jean also has its own board of governors. Cadet in RMC Saint-Jean issued a red uniform. The first year's program at RMC Saint-Jean frees up beds on RMC that allow more Regular Officers Training (ROTP) candidates to attend RMC than civil universities.

Museum

The museum is located in Fort Saint-Jean on the CollÃÆ'¨ge militaire royal de Saint-Jean campus. The museum's mandate is to collect, preserve, research and display material relating to the history of the CMR, its former cadets and its website, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu. A guided tour is offered. The museum contains a collection of military memorabilia, military artifacts, maps, models, videos, and historic objects. This site has been occupied since 1666 by various garrisons, shipyards and military colleges. The CMR Ex-Cadet Foundation manages a museum that recognizes more than 325 years (1666-1995) military history in the fort located on the Richelieu River. Flora and hundred-year-old trees improve the site. The RMC Saint-Jean art collection includes a bronze statue of a cadet of 'Truth Duty Valor (1976)', by William McElcheran (Canada 1927-1999) "Presented for 'le college militaire royal de saint jean' by commander, RMC staff, Canada on the occasion of sister College visit, 12-17 May 1976 "

H18424 Lt Cdr (Ret`d) David Daniel Ruddy founded the CMR Museum in 1965 to showcase artifacts from Fort Saint-Jean and souvenirs from CollÃÆ'¨ge militaire royal de Saint-Jean. He was Director of the CMR Museum from 1965 to 1988. In 1965 artefacts and documents were moved from the CMR library to an old guard house built in the 19th century by Royal Engineers.

The museum club started as a cadet club in 1972 with the head of the museum club acting as the Curator. The Cadet Officer is part of the team that turns the old guard house into a decent museum. Office Cadets designed dioramas (s) used in museums and business cards from museums display a picture of one of the officer's cadet army models on it.

The museum opened in an old guard house at the north entrance to the College from 1974-1998. Three small cells were used to display the historic period (1666-1951) and drunken large tank cells to display memorabilia from the CMR, which had been opened in 1952. The CMR Museum opened on special occasions until it was recognized as an official museum of the Canadian Forces in May 1973.

The museum was closed from 1998-2003. The Museum Committee of the CMR Ex-Cadet Club Foundation was established on January 22, 2003. When the museum accredits a Canadian Forces Museum, the Museum Committee becomes an independent body separate from the Foundation.

In 2006, while HÃÆ'Ã… © lÃÆ'¨ne Ladouceur served as curator, the museum site moved from an old guard house to the entrance of the previous Protestant Chapel. LGen (ret.) And Senator RomÃÆ'Â ° o A. Dallaire led the official opening, which took place on March 29, 2006.

Eric Ruel became a museum curator in 2006. The museum website museedufortsaintjean.ca was created in June 2007.

In May 2012, while Eric Ruel served as curator, the museum moved into the historic pavilion  «Forges». The museum is open from Wednesday to Sunday, from 10:00 to 17:00, from 24 May to 1 September.

Archaeological Excavations have taken place on the site from 2009 to 2013 through the Month of Archaeo Quebec, an initiative of the ArchÃÆ'Â © o-QuÃÆ' Â © bec. Funded by the Director of History and Heritage of the Canadian Forces as part of a five-year agreement between the Fort Saint-Jean Museum, Laval University and the Royal Military University of Saint-Jean, Archaeology Digs is supported by the du Fort Saint-Jean Company and Parks Canada archaeologist. The Museum is a member of the Canadian Museum Association, the Canadian Heritage Information Network (CHIN), the Canadian Virtual Museum and the Canadian Museum of Military Organization Inc. The museum is an accredited museum within the Canadian Museum of Museum Systems. The museum has established an association of friends of museum museums to assist projects.
