San Jacinto College is a community college in the Greater Houston area of ââthe US state of Texas.
Established in 1961, San Jacinto College originally comprised an independent school district (ISD) from Channelview, Deer Park, Galena Park, La Porte, and Pasadena. The college now also serves Sheldon, and part of Clear Creek ISD and Humble ISD. The headquarters of San Jacinto College is located in Pasadena, Texas.

In May 1960, voters at Channelview, Deer Park, Galena Park, La Porte and Pasadena school approved the formation of the East Harris County Union Junior College, selected seven members to serve on the Bupati Council and authorized the Bupati (now Board of Trustees) Council to levy taxes for campus operations and maintenance.
On February 16, 1961, the Bupati's Council changed the district's name to Junior San Jacinto School District. Using a renovated building in Pasadena, the college welcomed 876 students to its first class in September 1961. The San Jacinto Junior College District was approved and accredited by the Texas Department of Education when the college opened. The college was granted full membership at the Association of Texas Colleges and Universities on April 6, 1963. On 4 November 1968, Sheldon Independent School District was selected as part of the college district.
On November 30, 1966, the South High School and School Association first gave San Jacinto college accreditation. Campuses north and south were first accredited in 1976 and 1979, respectively. Reaffirmation of the latest accreditation for the three campuses took place in 1999.
Bonds issued in 1972 included funds for the Northern Campus. After five extension classes were offered at North Shore High School, the Northern Campus opened for a class on its website in the fall of 1975. In 1976, the bonds were approved for the third campus. After several extension class terms were offered at SMA J. Frank Dobie, San Jacinto College South opened for classes in September 1979.
In 1997, James F. Horton became chancellor, and Adena Williams Loston became the second president of San Jacinto College South and the first African-American president in the district.
In December 1999 voters approved the issuance of $ 91 million of common bond bonds, enabling the construction of six new buildings including the Interactive Learning Center and the Center for Fine Arts. Another ballot in May 2008 allocated $ 295 million to create updated science facilities, combined health facilities, library improvements, and improved physical education facilities.
Clear Horizons Early College High School opened its doors on the southern campus in the fall of 2007. A partnership with Clear Creek ISD, the program allows students to earn an associate's degree while earning a high school diploma. In 2008, Hurricane Ike inflicted significant damage on three campuses. Students return to class in less than three weeks.

Campus
The campus has three main campuses and six extension centers. The Central Campus is in Pasadena, the North and South campuses are in Houston at Uvalde and Beamer Road. There are two counseling centers in Webster, one in Clear Lake High School, two in Galena Park and one in Pasadena.
Organization and administration
Founded in 1961, the district initially comprises the Channelview ISD areas, ISD Deer Park, ISD Galena Park, La Porte ISD, and Pasadena ISD. This district now also serves Sheldon ISD. As defined by the Texas Legislature, the official area of ââSan Jacinto College covers the areas within the following school districts: Channelview Independent School District, Deer Park Independent School District, Galena Independent School District, La Porte Independent School District, Pasadena Independent School District, Sheldon Independent School District and part of the Clear Creek Independent School District located in Harris County. Some facilities are also located within the ISD Clear Creek limit but Clear Creek ISD is not considered In-District for registration purposes.
Academic profile
San Jacinto College offers students the opportunity to complete classes in Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedical level medical technology. The campus also offers maritime trade and maritime education programs. The latest results published in Texas EMS Magazine show a 41% first-degree graduation rate for a Paramedic graduate program from December 1, 2008 through November 30, 2009.
