Histori

In April 2012, the Minerva Project received US $ 25,000,000 in funding from Benchmark Capital to create a degree program that will become Minerva School at KGI. Stephen Kosslyn joins Minerva in March 2013 to serve as the Founder of the Dean. Prior to joining Minerva, Kosslyn was Director of the Center for Advanced Study in Behavioral Science at Stanford University and the Dean of Social Sciences at Harvard University. Kosslyn is responsible for recruiting the heads of four colleges at School of Arts & amp; Science and oversee the development of curriculum based on Minerva seminars. In July 2013, Minerva Project partnered with the Keck Graduate Institute to officially launch the Minerva School at KGI.

Minerva receives WASC regional accreditation for its five programs: Bachelor of Science in Social Sciences, Bachelor of Arts in Arts and Humanities, Bachelor of Science in Natural Sciences, Bachelor of Science in Computational Science, and Bachelor of Science in Business.

Minerva recognizes the first class in 2014. The school offers venues to 69 students, out of 2,464 apps. 29 students received and received 69 acceptations which resulted in a revenue rate of 2.8% and a 42% yield. Members of the inaugural class receive a full four-year scholarship.

Beginning in 2016, Minerva grew into postgraduate education by offering the Master of Science in Applied Analysis and Decision Making.

By 2017, schools have a 2% admission rate and 57% revenue.

Minerva announces the launch of Building an Intensional University: Minerva and the Future of Higher Education (October 2017). This book, which explains how and why Minerva was founded, is also intended to be the "blueprint" for the program other universities.

Pedagogy

The course is done because the online seminar is closed on 19 students. Minerva applied a 1972 study showing that memory is enhanced by "in" cognitive tasks. Such tasks include working with the material, applying it, and arguing about it rather than memorizing. All classes begin with a short quiz, with a second potential in the next class, which is claimed to increase retention. Automatic student performance recording allows progress tracking.

Students initially took four "Cornerstone Courses" which introduced "Habits of Mind" and "Basic Concepts" that traverse science and the humanities. In science classes, for example, students develop an understanding of the need for controlled experiments. In the humanities class, they learn classical rhetoric techniques and develop basic persuasive skills. The curriculum was later built from the foundation. Minerva encourages students to use a large open online course to learn what is usually taught in the first year course.

According to the Dean of the Faculty, Stephen Kosslyn, Minerva has given the CLA test to his own students and this result shows that his pedagogy works. Kossyln writes: "In the autumn of 2016, new Minerva students perform at the 95th percentile compared to new students in other schools - we are very selective, and expect results like this. The same group, when compared to senior students , done in the 78th percentile as a newcomer. Then, in the spring of 2017, just 8 months later, those same Minerva were just done in the 99th percentile when compared to senior in all institutions other than that: Minerva is ranked number 1 of all the schools that run the tests. "

In response to a college counselor who warned students to be wary of schools without laboratories, theaters or libraries, founder Ben Nelson, son of a laboratory scientist, said, "Laboratory class is a waste." He suggests apprenticeship, visiting the city library, or joining the fitness center.

Facilities

Minerva has two dormitories in San Francisco, California, one in the Nob Hill neighborhood and one on Market Street, as well as one in Berlin and Buenos Aires. More residences are planned to open in Seoul, Hyderabad and London. Istanbul was removed from the list of prospective cities in July 2016 after political instability in Turkey.

Minerva does not have classroom facilities, as all classes are conducted through active learning platforms developed by schools, focusing on participation and intellectual engagement.
