Histori

On May 21, 1965, Ontario led the way for the college of applied art and technology with the creation of its campus system. In 1967, the Welland Niagara College Campus was established in response to a provincial initiative to create many such institutions, provide career-oriented diplomas and certificate programs, as well as continue education programs.

In 1998 Niagara College opened the Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. In 2004, the hospitality, tourism and culinary programs at Niagara College moved from Maid of the Mist Campus to a new facility at Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus. In 2002, Niagara College launched Niagara College Teaching Winery, Canada's first commercial teaching vineyard, and in 2011 launched the Niagara College Teaching Brewery, which was also the first in Canada. Today, culinary programs, wine-making teaching and brewing teaching are part of the Canadian Food and Wine Institute at Niagara College.

In response to the rapid growth of the Niagara tourism sector and anticipated demand for thousands of new workers, the college established the Tourism Industry Development Center (TIDC). Located on the Maid of the Mist Campus in Niagara Falls, TIDC serves as an industry development and training resource specifically for the hospitality and tourism sector. In 2007, the Ontario Road Site was added for Health & amp; Community Studies Program.

In 2008, Niagara College embarked on a $ 90 million rebuilding campus as part of an overall college master plan, including significant upgrades and additions to Welland and Niagara-on-the-Lake Campuses. The rebuilding project is designed to increase capacity in programs serving major industries in Niagara, including skilled trades, technology, wineries and wineries and hospitality and tourism, while providing much needed improvements to aging facilities. The project is also a response to campus growth, including a 10.1 percent increase in total enrollment for the fall of 2008 - the largest increase among all Ontario universities.

Construction on the Welland Campus includes a 15,000 square foot (1,400 m 2 ) expansion to the Rankin Technology Center, as well as the New Academic Wing, Library and Learning Commons, a two-story Athletic Center, Student Center and Applied Health Institute for $ 40 million (AHI), funded by the federal and provincial governments under the Knowledge Infrastructure Program (KIP). The facility brings all of Niagara College's health programs into one complex space and is created for new programs and 1,000 new students. AHI includes classroom and simulation laboratories, dental clinics, public health clinics, and 350 seat auditoriums.

At Niagara-on-the-Lake Campus, the project includes the development of the Wine Education Visitor Center, which integrates academic programs, facilities for the unique Niagara College Teaching Winery and educational centers for students, industry, and visitors. The project also looks at the expansion of culinary facilities and the construction of the Niagara College Teaching Brewery. The project was completed in spring 2011.

The Learning Commons was renamed the Eva M. Lewis Learning Commons and Library in April 2016 after a $ 2.6 million donation from the estate of Eva M. Lewis. It is the largest personal contribution in school history.
