Chad Meredith Hurley (born January 24, 1977) is an American founder and former CEO of the popular YouTube video sharing site and MixBit. In June 2006, he was selected as the 28th on the "50 Who Who Means Now" list of Business 2.0. In October 2006, he and Steve Chen sold YouTube for $ 1.65 billion to Google. Hurley worked in eBay's PayPal division - one of his duties involved designing the original PayPal logo - before starting YouTube with fellow PayPal partners Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. Hurley is primarily responsible for aspects of tagging and video sharing on YouTube.

Personal life
Hurley was born in Reading, Pennsylvania, the second son of Don and Joann Hurley, and grew up near Birdsboro, Pennsylvania. He has two siblings, an older sister, Heather, and a younger brother, Brent. Since childhood, Chad showed an extreme interest in art, but later became interested in computers and electronic media during high school.
He is a prominent runner for the cross-country program Twin Valley High School, which won two PIAA State titles with him as a member in 1992 and 1994. He was also a member of the Technology Student Association during high school. He graduated from Twin Valley (Pennsylvania), Elverson in 1995 and later received a B.A. in Fine Arts from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1999.
With her marriage to Kathy Clark, Hurley is the son-in-law of the legendary Silicon Valley businessman, James H. Clark.

YouTube
Hurley founded YouTube in 2005 with Steve Chen and Jawed Karim. On October 16, 2006, Chen and Hurley sold YouTube to Google Inc. for $ 1.65 billion. It was reported in the Wall Street Journal that Chad Hurley's stake was $ 345.6M at the closing price of Google 7 February 2007 of $ 470.01. He received 694,087 Google shares directly and 41,232 other shares in a trust. In August 2013, Hurley launched another company called MixBit that does video editing using smartphones. According to Steve Chen, it was Chad's idea to turn Avos into a MixBit even before the start of YouTube. This app resembles other popular short video recorder apps like; Vine, Instagram, and Vyclone. The recording limit extends to 256 clips, each clip can be a maximum of 16 seconds. It also features editing tools that are similar to other competing apps.
Formula One
Chad was involved as a major investor with the US F1 Team, one of the newcomers to Formula One car racing for the 2010 season. On March 2, 2010, team personnel were dismissed from their duties and the team was closed unofficially. Both Hurley, team head Ken Anderson and sporting director Peter Windsor will not comment on the team's failure to reach the grid.
It is rumored that Hurley is still trying to get involved with F1 through another team.
Investment
Hurley has made some investments. He is part owner of Golden State Warriors NBA and MLS Los Angeles Football Club.
