Royal College of Surgeons or Royal Surgical College is a type of organization found in many current members and former Commonwealth of Nations. These organizations are dedicated to excellence in operations, and are responsible for training surgeons and managing their examinations. In this context, the term charter implies the provision of the Royal Charter.

History

The origins of the Royal College of Surgeons first return to the fourteenth century on the basis of the Guild of Surgeons Within the City of London. There was a dispute between the surgeon and the barber surgeon until an agreement was signed between them in 1493, giving the alliance a surgeon the power of merging. The Guild of Barbers of Dublin received the Royal Charter of Henry Vi in 1446, making it the earliest Royal Medical incorporation in England or Ireland. This was followed in 1505 by the incorporation of the Barber Surgeons of Edinburgh as the Craft Guild of Edinburgh. This body was given the royal charter in 1506 by King James IV of Scotland. This was followed by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow, hired by James VI in 1599, as the Glasgow Faculty.

The trade union in London was inaugurated further in 1540 by Henry VIII of England between the Prayer Company (included in 1462) and the Surgeon Guild to form a Surgical Drill-Producer Company. In 1745, the surgeon broke away from the barber to form the Surgeon Company. In 1800 the Company was granted a Royal Charter to become the Royal College of Surgeons in London. The next charter in 1843 gave him the current Royal College of Surgeons of England degree. In the year 2010, Prof. Eilis McGovern became President of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland and thus became the first female President of any Royal College surgery in the world.
