Series history
This game was first played in 1894 and has been contested 121 times until 2017; Oregon leads the series 64-47-10 (.570). This game was not held in 1900, 1901, 1911, 1943, and 1944 and two games were played in 1896 and 1945. The first reference was the name "Civil War" in 1929 and became publicly used in 1937. Prior to that , it's called "Oregon Classic" or "Game Country Championship."
The game is usually played on even-year in the home field of the State of Oregon at Corvallis (Reser Stadium, formerly Parker Stadium, beginning in 1954) and in the odd years in the field of Oregon homes in Eugene (since 1967, Autzen Stadium). Seven games were played at Multnomah Square/Stadium (now Providence Park) in Portland: in 1908, 1917, 1933, 1934, 1938, 1950, and 1952. In an attempt to reduce the unrest, games 1912 and 1913 were played on neutral sites in Albany after riots after the 1910 game which led to the cancellation of the 1911 game.
From 1997 to 2006, the home team won the game. The streak took place in 2007, when Oregon State beat Oregon at Autzen Stadium 38-31 in two hours overtime. In 2008, Duck replied favorably in Corvallis by beating OSU 65-38. The winning team's visit wins jolted in two matches in 2009 when Duck won 37-33 at Eugene.
From 1959 to 1961, the Platypus Trophy was awarded to the winner; it was lost for over forty years and was finally found in 2005. Starting with the game of 2007, it was awarded to the winning school alumni association.
The pair shared their longest winning streak in the series in eight games, but Duck had thirteen unbeaten games (1975-1987), with twelve wins and a goalless draw in 1983.
Other athletic contests (especially male and female basketball) between schools are also referred to as Civil War games.

Impressive game
1933 : In a match played before 32,183 spectators at the Multnomah Stadium in Portland, the two teams came into the match unbeaten: Beaver 5-0-2 and the Ducks 7-0. The Beavers scored first, but the rest is all Oregon, with fullback (and future of Chicago Cardinal) "Iron Mike" Mikulak rushed 89 yards on the way to a 13-3 win. Duck won part of the PCC championship, but Stanford got an offer to the Rose Bowl.
