History
On December 17, 1925 Talton Higbee Embry and John Paul Riddle founded the Embry-Riddle Company at Lunken Airport in Cincinnati, Ohio. In the spring of 1926, the company opened the Embry-Riddle Flight School. After merging with Aviation Corporation (AVCO), the Embry-Riddle aviation school closed in 1930.
In 1939, Riddle, John Graham McKay, and his wife Isabel set up a school in Miami, Florida. Maintaining the name, they partnered with the University of Miami to provide flight training under the Civil Pilot Training Program, increasing the number of pilots immediately before World War II. After a rapid expansion, the school moved to the former Fritz Hotel.
Preventing the closure of the recently announced Tamiami Airport named Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute was conducting its flight operations, the school was transferred to Daytona Beach in April 1965. Embry-Riddle was awarded university status in 1968 and renamed to the name of the day in 1970 Embry-Riddle started its worldwide program in the same year and opened its second residential campus in Prescott, Arizona, in 1978.
Although it started as a regional school for aircraft pilots and mechanics, the university enrolled nearly 32,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The First Year Experience program is designed to help students transition to college at the academic, social, and educational levels. Students in FYE housing are grouped together by major, when possible, and stay with specially trained staff to deal with the first year's transition problems. All first-year students under 21 years, without a permanent residency in Yavapai County and with less than 28 credit hours received, are required to stay in the University housing for their first academic year. All FYE students live in the Mingus Mountain Complex and are asked to participate in the Eating Services meal program.
Two Air Force ROTC detachments Embry-Riddle forms the largest source of Air Force commissioning in the United States. AFROTC Embry-Riddle detachment also generates more assigned officers, more pilots and other officers rated for the Air Force than any other agency in the country except the Air Force Academy. Army ROTC also operates a large detachment on the Prescott Campus.
The Prescott campus is home to the Golden Eagles Flight Team, which competes at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association. Eagles Prescott's Gold Team has won regional championships every year for the last 31 years, and the team also won the National Champion twelve times in 1993, 1997, 1999, 2003, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2012, 2013, 2016, 2017, and 2018.
