Goa Medical College (GMC) is a medical college and government hospital in Goa, India. This is one of the oldest medical colleges in Asia, the only one previously JIPMER founded in France (formerly Ecole de MÃÆ'Â © dicine de PondichÃÆ' Â © ry) in 1823 and the UK founded Calcutta Medical College & Madras Medical College in 1835.

History
The origins of this school date back to early in the seventeenth century when Viceroy D. CristÃÆ'³vÃÆ' Â £ o de Sousa Coutinho approached Lisbon with a request for "two or three Masters to teach medicine to many locals, who are very keen and quick to learn" (" dois ou trÃÆ'ªs Mestres the ensemble medicina a muitos naturais, que sÃÆ' Â £ o mui agudos e com facilidade a aprenderiam "). Built when Goa was part of Portugal in 1842 as Escola MÃÆ'Ã… © dico-CirÃÆ'ºrgica de Goa (Old Medical School of Goa) located in Panjim. During that period, he produced about 1,327 doctors and 469 pharmacists. It was renamed now and moved to Alto-Bambolim in 1993. From 1963-1985 it was under Bombay University; since 1986 has been under the University of Goa.

Organization
The Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behavior (Bambolim), T.B. Hospital of Cunha and Dada disease (St. Inez), Rural Health and Training Center (Mandur) and Urban Health Center (St. Cruz) form sections of Establishment. The college is affiliated with Goa University and offers MBBS courses alongside several MS and MD courses. Some courses with some super specialties are also provided.
Goa Medical College (GMC) and Goa Dental College are located opposite each other on the highway that connects the capital of Goa Panjim with its capital, Margao. A pedestrian subway has been built to connect the two institutes.
The current dean of acting at Goa Medical College is Dr. Pradeep Naik, an ophthalmologist.
Reception
Under Graduate
Total intake of 150 for the MBBS course. Of this amount, 85% is filled through GCET conducted by the Government of Goa and only Goa residents are eligible. The remaining 15% through the All-India Quota, open to every Indian citizen, and filled through NEET
Postgraduate
It has an 86 seat intake for PG courses in which 50% by All India Quota.
