An online college fair, or virtual college fair , is a relatively new phenomenon consisting of a collection of colleges and universities that communicate and provide information online for a certain period of time. An online college operates according to some conventional conventions of brick and mortar "colleges": there is an event space, schools have booths that prospective students and/or parents can visit to exchange information, and there are speaker sessions with various receipts and experts education. However, the whole fair is contained online, and therefore, online colleges can also have many cyberspace characteristics. One of the main benefits of an online exhibit is the travel expenses are eliminated for school and student representatives.

History

The first such online lecture exhibition was organized by the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and was held on October 9, 2001. Around 200 institutions participated; the number of participating students is unknown. This first online festival was widely regarded as a failure because of the number of students attempting to break into overloaded systems. NACAC, which plans to exhibit online lectures on a regular basis, stops the program after the initial event.

Additional online lecture service providers have come and gone. Gradschools.com organizes an online lecture exhibition along with live exhibitions. The event also experienced technical difficulties; ie firewall and recruiter issues that are not ready to use the online chat feature. In November 2002, the Big Apple College Fair also held an online college exhibition along with live exhibitions.

In October 2007, BusinessWeek, which produces the annual ranking of the US business school MBA program, held an MBA Expo 2007 with the tagline "Find the B-School that best suits you." A total of 8 US and international business schools are present.

CollegeWeekLive entered the marketplace on November 13, 2007 and continues as a leading provider of online exhibitions today. CollegeWeekLive grew 67% in 2012.

CappexConnect is launched in 2013. As part of the Cappex family of websites, CappexConnect is a website dedicated to organizing online lecture exhibitions and open homes online.

Current Online Curriculum Exhibition

On March 23rd & amp; 24, 2011 CollegeWeekLive hosted the largest online fair until that date, with over 60,000 event attendees. Participants are allowed to be fair to interact with college and student admissions officials from 250 schools through instant messaging and video chat. The exhibition also included 15 keynote speakers covering several topics including financial aid, diversity, and college essays. etc. Speakers include Lynn O'Shaughnessy, campus blogger on CBS MoneyWatch and Harlan Cohen, Author of The Naked Roommate.

CappexConnect organizes college online exhibitions several times throughout the year, giving students the opportunity to connect with hundreds of colleges and universities and thousands of students from across the country. Students can chat directly with college and university representatives as well as fellow students. Students can watch live presentations from accepting experts and financial assistance specialists on topics such as choosing college, financial assistance, and choosing majors. Participants also have the opportunity to enter to win a college scholarship. On September 10, 2013 and October 9, 2013, CappexConnect hosted a fall event covering more than 15,000 students who visited online booths from over 90 colleges and universities.

College Fairs Online is a new website devoted to high-quality virtual college exhibitions. They hold university exhibitions by the state and connect many colleges with prospective students.

The VASA Virtual Education Expo hosts a virtual educational exhibition that brings together universities and potential students.

With more people utilizing the web for college search information as well as with the spread of broadband internet access, online lecture exhibits are a major source for college app information. Colleges continue to use online chats as a way to connect with prospective students.

The college exhibit offers students who may not have easy access to college information or the ability to visit colleges. Univision Media, in collaboration with CollegeWeekLive, hosts a cyber fair with several presentations in Spanish.
