Tasks and skills
The image editor can organize photo shoots or send photographers to tasks. He has a thorough knowledge of all kinds of pictures - photos, pictures, cartoons, etc. But also must be familiar with moving pictures (video). The photo editor knows how to find the most relevant image to match the content it illustrates. It manages copyright and saves the budget.
Sometimes the photo editor is responsible for the image database; they are called photo librarians.

How jobs changed
The new technology and image's current happiness have dramatically changed the way image editors work. They do their research mostly on the Internet, and have to browse the never-ending stream of images.
There is a professional image editor organization, such as ANI in France or Picture Research Association in the UK.
