Histori

La Roche College was founded in 1963 by the Sisters of Divine Providence as a private college for religious nuns. Named in honor of Stephanie Amelia la Roche von Starkenfels, Superior First Mother of the Sisters of Divine Providence. The first president of the college was Sister Annunciata Sohl, CDP, who served until 1968. The college began to receive its first lay students in 1965. It continued to grow, and two years later La Roche expanded outside its rent space to build a Higher Education building first, the John J. Wright Library.

La Roche had financial difficulties shortly after its establishment. Although closing the lecture was considered, Sister de la Salle Mahler, C.D.P., president from 1969 to 1975, continued. The Council changed its amendment in 1970 to establish La Roche as an independent and coeducative Catholic institution, while also diversifying the course offerings through affiliation with the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The partnership provides several new areas of study, including graphic and interior design, which are among the strongest courses in the College today.

The registration blast made the construction of two new dormitories needed in the mid-1970s. Under the President's College Sister Mary Joan Coultas, C.D.P. (1975-80), the College launched its first capital campaign in 1979, garnering enough to build the Palumbo Science Center, which opened in 1980. During the reign of the Divine Kingdom of Sister Margaret Hub eleven years as president beginning in 1981, continues to grow, marking its 25th anniversary in 1987 with the dedication of a $ 2.5 million-Zappala College Center. The Magdalena Chapel was added in 1990, and in 1993 the campus opened the Kerr Fitness and Sports Center.

Sixth President La Roche, Monsignor William A. Kerr, was appointed in 1992 and focused his leadership on improving College visibility, while extending academic, cultural and athletic programs. In 2004, the La Roche College Board of Trustees voted for the seventh president of the College, Sister Candace Introcaso, C.D.P.
