The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) is a community college district serving Los Angeles, California, the United States and some of its neighbors and certain areas in Los Angeles County. Its headquarters are in Downtown Los Angeles. For more than seventy seven years LACCD has served as an educator for over three million students. In addition to typical college-age students, LACCD also caters to adults of all ages. Indeed, more than half of LACCD students are over 25 years of age, and over a quarter are 35 or older. LACCD educates nearly three times as many Latin students and nearly four times as many African-American students as all of the University of California campuses are combined. Supervisory board
The Los Angeles Community College District is governed by an elected Board of Trustees. In May 2016, the members were Scott J. Svonkin (president), Mike Eng (vice president), Mike Fong, Andra Hoffman, Sydney K. Kamlager, Ernest H. Moreno, and Nancy Pearlman. Alexa Victoriano (Student's Guardian).
Council members are elected by voters in the district for a period of four years. Elections are held every two years, with three members elected in one election and four members in the other. The President and Vice President of the Supervisory Board are elected by the Council for one year term at the annual meeting of the organization. The Second Vice-President is elected at the discretion of the Council. A student member is elected every year - the term is June 1 through May 31 each year.
The board generally meets twice a month on Wednesdays with public sessions starting at 2 pm. with a closed session to follow. At certain moments, special Council meetings are sometimes called on to handle businesses that can not be fully addressed at regular meetings.
Project
The district is modernizing all its facilities, including nine campuses, through its $ 6 billion Development Program. The program is funded primarily through bond measures approved by voters in 2001, 2003, and 2008, plus additional funding from the State of California. As with recent reports, about $ 3.1 billion of the $ 6 billion has been spent or done.
