Ryan Hunter Palmer (born 19 September 1976) is a professional American golfer playing on the PGA Tour.
Born and raised in Amarillo, Texas, Palmer graduated from Amarillo High School in 1995. He played golf at the University of North Texas (one year) and then transferred to Texas A & amp; M University for the past three years, graduated in 2000, and became a professional. Early in his professional career, Palmer played on mini-tours (Tightlies Tour and Hooters Tour) from 2000 to 2002. He played the Nationwide Tour in 2003, won the Clearwater Classic and finished 6th on the money list to get the 2004 PGA Tour card.
The first PGA Tour victory at Palmer took place at the 2004 FUNAI Classic at Walt Disney World Resort, with a three-stroke victory over Briny Baird and Vijay Singh. Four years later, he won his second career during the PGA Tour Fall Series, in 2008 Ginn sur Mer Classic where wet, rainy conditions made playing field difficult throughout the week. He won by making a ten-foot putt for birdie in the last hole on Sunday to finish seven under par and win by one blow over five players. He is 143 on the money list coming in this week, but this victory is guaranteed his playing status on Tour for 2009 and 2010.
In January 2010, Palmer won his third PGA Tour title at Sony Open in Hawaii. The final round of 66 ensured his victory with a single blow over Robert Allenby.
Palmer almost won his fourth career title in his hometown, HP Byron Nelson Championship in Texas in May 2011. Palmer entered the final lap lead with a single blow, but when the last lap took place in the windy conditions he had to poke birdie putt in the end to enter the playoffs with Keegan Bradley. In the first playoff hole, the 18th, both players hit their tee shot to the right among the trees. Bradley played his approach to just go green while Palmer linked his approach with a shot into the water. Palmer pitched close to the hole and made a bogey but Bradley was able to win with pitch and putt par.
In March 2014, Palmer lost another sudden playoff death at the Honda Classic, having missed five footers for what would have been a victory on 18th green in regulation play. He entered the playoff of four men, being the only one to shoot in the final round below par. However, in the playoffs, after losing green in two, he could not get up and down, leaving Russell Henley to the hole of three legs to victory. This is runner-up of second runner-up Palmer this year, having completed two shots behind Patrick Reed in Humana Challenge in January 2014.
Palmer began the 2017-18 season at the Major Medical Extension under the provision of a family crisis when his wife underwent chemotherapy treatment. He fulfilled the requirements of his medical extension at CareerBuilder Challenge, then lost a sudden playoff death at the Farmers Insurance Open the following week. Trying to end the eight-year unsuccessful drought on tour, Palmer, playing in the final group, birdie hole 72th to join the playoffs with Jason Day and Alexander Norà © n. However, Palmer was knocked out in the first extra hole, as he could only make par for another birdie on the 18th.
