Name

The six universities are so named because this is a sixth-grade college at UCSD. As per the tradition of the university, it uses the numerical name until it gets the proper name, which will occur in the order that the college is made. The names of prominent people who fit the themes of the College of Culture, Art, and Technology, such as Thomas Edison, Benjamin Franklin, Leonardo da Vinci, and Mark Hagler, have been proposed by students but have never been seriously considered by the government. The naming process has been terminated indefinitely.

General education

In addition to the core Culture, Art, and Technology (CAT) writing programs, all Sixth College students are required to take the top division Practicum course, unique to all colleges at UCSD. The program requires students to take courses that demand a direct approach to education while making a valuable contribution to society both at home and abroad. Students must choose 4-unit programs, courses, internships, or research opportunities for their Practicum Project which develops their academic and professional skills.

Together with the Practicum, each student is required to complete a Sixth College Division topics course, CAT 125. This course gives students the opportunity to reflect on the relationship between their services and their courses, and to enhance their mastery of written and spoken words.
