Specular International is a company founded by Dennis Chen and Adam Lavine in 1990. Specular makes and distributes several software products, the most popular being Infini-D, integrated 3D modeling software, rendering, and animation products that are specialized in such 3D effects. Infini-D is part of a larger trend in delivering 3D technology that is only available in powerful workstations for a wider range of personal computer audiences. Other Specular products include Collage, a high-end composite Adobe Photoshop composite product, and BackBurner, a distributed rendering system that uses multiple Apple Macintosh computers on the network or over the internet to create computationally intensive 3D animation. Many Specular employees join Adobe Systems, and work on products including Adobe Photoshop, Adobe After Effects, and Adobe Premiere. Specular joined MetaTools in 1997 to form MetaCreations.
